In 2002, producers
of olive oil in the Sierra de Cazorla region promoted the creation of a company
whose main objective is to combine forces in order to be able to offer a product
of unique characteristics to connoisseur clients around the world.
The sector is located in Spain´s largest
natural park, the Sierra de Cazorla, Segura y las Villas Natural Park. The
Sierra de Cazorla “Denominación de Origen” quality control
body oversees the olive oil production of the villages of Cazorla, Chilluevar,
Hinojares, Huesa, La Iruela, Peal del Becerro, Pozo Alcón, Quesada
and Santo Tomé, all located in the Park.
The “Aceite
Jienense de Cazorla” olive oil company comprises six working oil presses
which in conjunction represent:
- A
20kg million yearly production of virgin olive oil, of which 5kg million
is of the highest category.
- A total
area of 50,000m2 of facilities for pressing and extracting the oil
- 37,000
hectares of olive groves
- An
annual turnover of 40 millon Euros
